At present he is the president of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University and Director of Key Laboratory of digital Medicine and Computer Assisted Surgery of Shandong Province.

He obtained the Bachelor of Medicine from Qingdao Medical College (Current Medical College of Qingdao University) at 1984. He started the master-doctor combined program at 1987 under the supervision of Prof. Baixiang Jin who is an authority and founder of Pediatric surgery in Shanghai Medical University (Current Medical College of Fudan University). He studied under the supervision of Prof. Nobuhiko Komi who is an international authority of Pediatric surgery and Hepatobiliary surgery in The University of Tokushima in 1990, which makes him a Joint-PhD. He put forward the carcinogenic mechanism of congenital biliary dilatation and anomalous junction of pancreaticobiliary biliary duct and finished the relevant research in 1992, which attracted great attention over the world. He obtained the M.D. in the same year. He was promoted to professor unconventionally at 1995 and was selected as the Vice-president of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University at 1997. Prof. Qian Dong’s research has centered on pediatric hepatobiliary surgery and pediatric oncology. He has conducted intensive study on pediatric oncology and pediatric hepatobiliary disease, especially the mechanism of carcinogenesis for biliary tract in pediatric biliary dilatation, pediatric malignant solid tumor and pediatric liver tumor therapy. He was invited to attend the special reports hold by Approaching Science and Healthways in CCTV through the recommendation from China Science Association due to his special contribution in the field of pediatric hepatobiliary surgery. On the aspect of pediatric oncology surgery, he combined the clinic and experiments, and normalized the comprehensive therapy of pediatric malignancy, which increased the clinical survival significantly. In addition to being the editor of Pediatric oncology surgery (People's Medical Publishing House), Pediatric hepatobiliary surgery (People's Medical Publishing House), Handbook of clinical pediatrics (People's Medical Publishing House), he also participated in writing other eight medical books which were published by Japanese, European and domestic press. He was awarded Taishan Distinguished Professor in 2012.

Prof.Qian dong has conducted the digital medicine since 2006 and has applied the relevant technique in clinic. The idea of CT 3D imaging-preoperative simulation proposed by him makes the pediatric surgery more purposeful and accuracy. The current work has involved the precision medicine. The project titled “Development of clinical decision making system for pediatric hepatic tumor surgery” proposed by Prof. Qian dong and his group got the support from China's 12th five-year science and technology support plan in 2012, which is one of the largest science and technology projects in the area of digital medicine. In 2014, the group undertook the Qingdao autonomous innovation major project titled “development and equipment industrialization of computer aided surgical workstation”. In the same year, Prof. Qian dong established Department of digital medicine of Shandong medical association with the strong support from Shandong medical association and hold the first academic conference successfully. The Digital medicine and computer assisted surgery research institute led by Prof. Qian dong and founded by Qingdao University and Hisense group jointly was approved as key laboratory in Shandong Province in 2015. The project titled “development and equipment industrialization of computer aided surgical all-in-one workstation” was listed as key research and development plan in Shandong province in 2016. Under the leadership of Prof. Qian dong, the research group is growing up and involves researchers with diverse academic background including medicine, computer science, information engineering, etc. which makes it a domestic or even international leading digital medicine research group. Under the guide of the idea of production-education-research cooperation, the group developed the Hisense Computer Assisted Surgery System (Hisense CAS), Hisense Surgical Intelligent Display System and other products.

Prof. Qian dong and his group cooperate with Baidu medical, Hisense medical to benefit the public welfare and health and contribute to the development of digital medicine. The three sides sign strategic cooperation agreement for the project titled “Human digital liver database cooperation platform” to jointly construct world-class Global human digital liver database open platform through integrating medical science, computer science, information engineering and other disciplines, and to support human health and contribute to development of medical science.
